Gold Medal to NBC's Olympic Website
Possibly the greatest achievement in the Torino Olympic Games was the NBC website. While TV ratings sagged, NBCOlympics.com recorded 338 million page views – more than double the Salt Lake City games. This Olympics, the Internet has really come of age. While most of the Boomers were sitting on their loungers watching the TV updates, the younger generation was checking on the games live via the web. The Internet is a "when you want it, how you want it" medium, and millions of people took full advantage of the technology.
With live, up-to-the-minute information, special features, and rundowns on each individual event, the website kept it’s audience updated minute by minute. The behind the scenes blog even showed us a peek at things the networks didn’t report, and polls showed us the interests of the audience.
You still need evidence that convergence is here?
