It reminds me of 2 Timothy 4:3 “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

I hear what you're saying, Phil. I just happen to think that a harsh message can be attractive, too, especially when the Holy Spirit is empowering it. I think of John the Baptist there. At NewSpring Church, Perry Noble preaches consistently entertaining but prophetic messages and we're growing like crazy. Our youth pastor, Brad Cooper, brings his messages with such intensity that I've been sure that the teenagers would walk out in protest. But they keep coming, too, 660+, with dozens of new attenders each week. I think people are sick of bubblegum. They know, deep down inside, that something isn't right about the way they live. They want to be challenged -- and they also want help meeting that challenge.

Matthew 10:19, But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say,

for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

I'm not talking method but message. The message of the Gospel is inspiring and convictional. Being convicted means the Spirit is drawing you. These verses above are Christ's words. We must declare the truth in love but conviction comes from the Spirit.
