What Will it Take to Fix Christian Television?

Check out the poll on the right and cast your vote. And if your option isn’t listed, respond to this, and let me know what else we need to fix about it. And if you don’t think it needs to be fixed, let me know that as well. Is there hope? Let me know!

oh it sooo needs to change no doubt about it! Ho hum! I would love to see the book of acts…in action! Jesus said GREATER works shall you do…that means we should be DOING not just talking about it! Todays tv is all about reality shows…well where is the REAL church ..not the stuffy religious one…where is the ACTION..the ALIVE the EXICTEMENT (not emotion) . They say true revival is when the entire community is changed….where is that? I remember a video I saw about a community that believed that and they were a farming community and through their "action" they brought withcraft to an end and crime to an end in their community and the farms were producing such harvest people were flying in from all around the world to witness is and what they found was a community sold out to God. I just don't want to hear sermons…I want to see it! right in my own nation and than take it to other nations! How about reality christianity?!

How is it going to change? I don't know…does it need to yes? I can't stand watching sermons of big hared mega church ministries…There needs to be a line up like network TV…sit comes, drama series, weekend features films, sporting events, reality shows, ect…they need to be compelling too. Where is the action, comedy, romance, suspense, ect?

What will it take for advertisers to support big stations like TBN in a huge way. If TBN's reach is so massive, why can't they attract massive advertisers like cable or network tv? Asking viewers to support a station just won't work-it's can't be non profit…it's got to be commercialized…

Even on the website it shows preachers and women with huge hair and thousand dollar suits…it just seems so fake. The programming is not even close to being qualified as "entertainment"..which is the first rule in television. You better be entertaining or people will tune you out! I can't tune out FOX, CBS, SPIKE, or ESPN for TBN…I'd be more than willing if they offered competitive entertaining programs…I'd be the first one to switch over

I guess it all depends on how you define Christian television. After years of involvement in the "Christian" music scene, this turns out to be the key question. Do you mean Christians who make Television shows? Or do you mean TBN? Because to me, as a Christian, "Christian" television as in TBN, etc. is completely irrelevant.  If your question is regarding Christians in the Television industry creating and influencing media, that is a whole different question.

I think they are meaning Christian TV as in TBN…I would just like to see them try to compete with a major network on sit coms, sports, news, reality shows, series, ect…that's tv to me..entertainment, otherwise why waste your time listening to some rich guy preach a showy sermon..

well there is one poster ( I think he /she posted twice ) that I don't agree with at all ( I am the one who posted 1st on this topic) I don't want or care for entertainment ….enough of that just watching everyday life….no I believe I speak in tune with this generation…we want something REAL that is powerful and ALIVE. The gospel has the power to transform lives…I want to see that! From the drug pusher to the school system to our halls of justice to our families to our neighborhoods to our future. We are supposed to be leading the pack…setting the pace…showing the way….let's reflect the book of Acts today…and do what Jesus did and greater works. I can only surmize our christian tv is reflecting our church?! How sad! TBN is playing it safe bumping programs off the air that speak out that muslims extremests are terrorists ….won't be long before all their programing is censored……I am looking for uncensored christianity where people in the pews stand up and say to whomever …that is wrong…you got to live right too! We are tired of religion, gimmicks and people pleasers and crowd pleasers we want holiness, and righteousness and leaders who aren't cowards! Personally, I think the issue is a bit more fundamental. the first thing in my mind is to stop calling it "christian television". By separating it by label, we are creating an extra hurdle for ourselves. No matter how it is funded or how it is created, Good product is good product. Good storytelling is good storytelling. The best way to influence a culture is to understand it and then speak to it on its own terms. If we ignore the present culture and attempt to inculcate it from the outside , or indoctrinate it to our worldview we will alienate and ultimately destroy our channel of communication. In other words, we need to be more present than they are in their own spheres of influence.
