Apparently, we've flooded the church site and they've shut it down for the time being. Keep checking back. This is too good to miss...

Still picking my chin up off the floor.
Isn’t that an ironic name for that church?
I’m thinking of the suggestion earlier today that we not demand that people explain/defend the worst actions of those from their faith tradition. Please, yes, because as a Christian I would not want to have to defend or explain the book burning! I must be too idealistic or something, because I never stop being shocked by the extremists.

Hahahaha!

I recently saw some deranged loony who will remain nameless yakking on about the KJV being the only correct version of the Bible and his hair splitting was hysterical ("Its not how majestic, its how excellent" etc).

Incidentally, there are loads of mistranslations in the KJV. For example, there's a verse in Genesis where it says "People began to call on the name of the Lord", where it in fact translates (from the original Hebrew) "People began to profane the name of the Lord". A very significant difference. Does that mean we should burn the KJV?

Barbeque sounds tasty though. And I'll happily add anything by Celine Dion onto the bonfire...

WOW! The cultural Nazis are at it again!!

Brings me back to the first church I ever attended as a believer. We used the KJV because "that's the one that the Apostle Paul used" (they believed that) and the inevitable "don'ts list" showed up in the back of the hymnal mascarading (trying to maintain Halloween continuity) as a "Church Covenant."

Sadly, anything that even hinted of creativity, innovation and spontaneity was stomped out by a fiercely protective group of storm trooper deacons who saw themselves as gatekeepers of the holy grail of fundamentalism.

I'm sure the Amazing Grace Baptist Church doesn't approve of you, Phil and probably doesn't think that much of me either. I consider myself in good company!

I just wonder if they're BBQing that chicken over the open flames -- will that not profane the chicken and cause it to be unholy to be eaten?

Oh, and Rick -- yeah, I said that to my father, that it's the Bible Paul used...he agreed. And didn't you love the covenant where you couldn't drink, but adultery and murder are okay? Yeah.
