I agree that if organizations don't make plans soon to upgrade they will soon be outdated themselves. I have a real pet peave about the ignorance of some poeple and organizations who see no need for it. Clearly, it is not a necessity just yet, but the picture produced by HD is so remarkably better that it soon will be. It seems to me in the circles I talk too that many poeple think they are getting an HD picture but are not. Many poeple do not realize what real HD is, and that even if something is broadcast HD you still need an HD receiver to capture it. After watching HD it is very difficult to watch anything else.

A few days ago I wrote an email to some friends and piers to find out what their thoughts were to the growing "trend" of the bigger television ministries going HD (with an article about TBN HDTV being up and running). I got mostly negative reactions ("It's too expensive." "Go away."). Here's some of my response I wrote yesterday:

WILL TV STATIONS AIR HD? We know from experience that TV/DTV stations will pick up the technology (including 5.1 audio) as it becomes affordable and/or mandatory for their future.

Christian TV/DTV stations and Ministry programs can stay SD 4:3 for now but what about after we turn off the analog stations in 2009? Will people start complaining because they're watching HD 16:9 programs (like the future "This is Your Day" or Joel Osteen) in SD 4:3 letterbox (or windowbox on a 16:9 TV)?

KNOWING YOUR AUDIENCE - As HD sets and HD/DVR video players/recorders come under $1,000 the US HD market is slowly but surely growing and it's wanting more HD/16:9/5.1 and not a 4:3 box in the middle of their expensive new TVs ("Martha, shall we use the gray or the black bars tonight?").

I know this in not a problem today but how about in 5-10 years?

When do you make a 5-10 year business plan?

But I guess we can afford to ignore the idea of HD and it will go away.

Or maybe it will just ignore us...

--------------------------------------------------------

2007 GOALS

I have some goals for my own buisness (IN1ACCORD) this year.

I'm adding to my existing software's ability to edit all of the HD formats:

1.
I learned a very interesting fact from the Sony camera engineer who installed our new Sony HDC-1500 HD cameras at our Benny Hinn facility in California two weeks ago. She is the principal camera engineer on the west coast and has done all of the major HD cam installs over the last couple of years including trucks and permanent facilities. Her perspective from "the inside" was that HD camera technology has more or less "peaked for now. The resolutions aren't going any higher and people are now settling in on 720p, 1080i, 1080p, etc. So her conclusion was that you can now buy safely knowing you aren't going to get "out-rezzed" by something new next year or even maybe in 5 years. Sure, manufacturers are going to add bells and whistles to attract new buyers. We are all familiar with how much we use the sepia tone and negative video effects on our PD150s right? Go ahead and take the plunge, your eyes will adjust to the wider image in only a few short days.

I'm just wondering how many churches were polled for this survey? The percenatges are quite large and I'd like to use this information in a presentation that I am working on for our church. Thanks.

I found the answer to that question BUT my next question deals with weekly attendance. What is the average attendance of the churches involved with this poll? Thanks.

It was a cross section of churches, religious stations, networks, and production facillties. The size of the churches weren't specified.
