Chuck says, "It's a sin in my opinion not to be involved in your civic duty."
First of all, what does he mean by civic duty–the context here suggests that at least voting falls under that umbrella.
Secondly, on what authority does he base this opinion? I find nowhere in Scripture mandating that we vote.
I understand that he thinks Christians should be doing everything they can to make a difference in the world, but how does choosing between Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum make a difference? I'm not saying that voting doesn't make a difference; I'm not even saying that who the president is doesn't make a difference. I'm saying that sometimes I think it's our spiritual duty–which even Chuck would agree trumps "civic duty"–to not vote when there is no qualified candidate. I wonder if Chuck thinks choosing between to evils is a sin. To me, it is. And I'm not talking about minor issues; I'm talking about things like abortion, the death penalty, the war in Iraq, etc. These are very serious issues that prevent me from getting behind any of the candidates still standing.
